Caramel Seasoned Apple Cider Doughnuts
The kids are back to school, leaves are falling and the weather is ripe for apple picking and pumpkin carving. Take the time to rejoice in all that autumn has to offer and spend some quality time with the ones you love making Kernel Season’s apple cider doughnuts.
Our doughnuts are warm, fluffy and full of flavor! Make these mini caramel flavored doughnuts for the upcoming Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays or as a special fall inspired treat.
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup Kernel Season’s Caramel seasoning, plus extra for dipping
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
Oil for deep frying
Heart-shaped cookie cutters
Cream butter in a mixing bowl. Add in egg, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, apple cider and Kernel Season’s Caramel seasoning.
Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda in a separate bowl. Slowly add flour mixture into wet ingredients. If needed, add small amounts of flour until dough just stops sticking to bowl. Then wrap and refrigerate dough for at least an hour. We recommend chilling overnight for best results.
Roll dough out on a well-floured surface with a rolling pin and use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out doughnuts. Heat oil to medium high heat or 365 degrees. Then fry doughnuts until puffy and brown. The centers of the doughnuts should be cooked through, so test the oil first by frying a piece of dough leftover from the heart cut-outs.
When the doughnuts are done frying, drain the excess oil off by placing the cooked doughnuts on a paper towel. Finish by tossing the doughnuts, while warm, in Kernel Season’s Caramel seasoning.
